Fentanyl Pain Patch: Merchant of Accidental Overdose Death, Part II

That message was posted on our Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA) Injuryboard Law Blog, and we’re sad to say the story is not uncommon. Our firm is currently handling multiple fentanyl pain patch lawsuits, so we have seen firsthand just how lethal these pain patches really are.
Why are fentanyl pain patches, which Ortho-McNeil sell under the brand name Duragesic, so dangerous? Well, the drug isestimated to be 80 times stronger than morphine and hundreds of times more powerful than heroin. It was designed for people in excruciating pain, yet many doctors prescribe fentanyl pain patches to patients who have low back pain and other common health problems that cause aches and soreness. I sympathize with people struggling with back pain, but taking fentanyl and exposing themselves to a pain patch overdose death is simply too risky.

Another big reason fentanyl pain patches are lethal is because many patches were poorly designed and the gel containing the powerful drug can leak out and come into direct contact with skin. This has led to numerous fentanyl pain patch overdose deaths.
