Tanya Woodruff Mise and her 3-year-old daughter Lauren Makenzie Mise both died Tuesday night after another driver allegedly ran a red light in a tragic crash Tuesday evening on Dam Neck Road in Virginia Beach.

Criminal charges against the other driver – who has not been identified – are pending, Virginia Beach police said.

Witnesses told WAVY-TV that the Mise family 2003 GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicle was struck by a car that ran a red light at the intersection of Corporate Landing Parkway and Dam Neck Road in Virginia Beach. The accident happened about a mile south of Oceana Naval Air Station.

The Mise family is from Emporia, according to The Virginian-Pilot. The Yukon was being driven by Mise’s husband, 38.

Neither Mr. Mise nor a 2-year-old son were hurt, WVEC-TV reported.

“Physically, they’re both OK,” a Virginia Beach police spokesman told WVEC, adding the he “talked to both of them on the scene, obviously an emotional train wreck understanding the circumstances but physically they’re both going to be OK.”

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m., The Pilot said. The Mises were headed east on Dam Neck when the driver of a Scion on Corporate Landing ran a red light, The Pilot reported.

Lauren Mise died at the scene, where she was waiting for an air ambulance, according to The Pilot. Her mother died after she was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

My thoughts are with the Mise family. I know this is a terrible tragedy. Two lives lost over a stop light. I believe Lauren Mackenzie is with her mother in Heaven. Things can't be explained how events in our lives unfold but things just happen and can't be controlled. Please know I'm thinking of you and your family. Someone is out there Loves You and Cares for you

Where to begin? I am deeply sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what your are going through but know that there is one more person out here tha sends out his prayers for your family. I hope God will heal your pain and know one day you will reunite with your wife and child in Heaven. I lost my brother 12 years ago and I always think of him. Life is a journey and while we may not understand , one thing is for sure, this life is but a small passage in time and that you will se your wife and child again. Keep the faith and God Bless you all.

My deepest condolences go out to the Mise family. They are grappling with a pain that's hard to put into words at this point.

I hope a thorough investigation is conducted by the Virginia Beach Police so we can fully understand what exactly happened.

But for now, I want to reiterate my sympathies to Mr. Mise and his family. As a husband and father, I would be devastated if I lost my wife and child.

Stay strong.

I approached this accident around 9:30pm the night of the crash on my way home from work- traveling in the same direction the Mise family was traveling in. As I always do, I said a very quick prayer in my car as I detored down Corporate Landing for all involved in the crash- not knowing at the time that fatalities had occured. Im so sorry for the Mise family's loss. Once again lives have been lost because someone was impatient behind the wheel, its senseless and unacceptable! My heart goes out to all that knew and loved Tanya and Lauren.
